    Encanto Sermon Series

Join us in the 11:11 service this Sunday, July 24, as we begin our new sermon series based on the hit Disney movie Encanto. Together we will explore how the storylines of Scripture connect with themes in the movie, such as spiritual gifts, family dynamics, and unrealistic expectations.

As a part of this sermon series, we will host a movie night on Friday, August 5 from 6-8 p.m. to watch Encanto. Save the date, and please invite friends and family to join us!

Former First UMC Colleyville Pastor Claus Hermann Rohlfs, Jr. Passed Away June 28, 2022

    June 30, 2022

Dear friends and members of First United Methodist Church of Colleyville:

It is with sadness that I share the news of the Reverend Claus Rohlfs, Jr.’ death on Tuesday, June 28. The Reverend Rohlfs was appointed here at First UMC Colleyville in the 1980’s along with his wife Ruth. One of the highlights of the Rohlfs’ combined ministries was the building of the beautiful sanctuary we still enjoy. Please include the Rohlfs family in your prayers. Information concerning Claus’ memorial service is included in the obituary below.

    Grace and Peace –

    Pastor Mike Dawson

    Reverend Claus Hermann Rohlfs, Jr.

    April 10, 1949 – June 28, 2022

Rev. Claus Hermann Rohlfs, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, in College Station, Texas, with his family by his side.  He was born on April 10, 1949, in Philadelphia, PA to Doris Zirkel Rohlfs and Claus H. Rohlfs, Sr.

Claus graduated from King High School in Corpus Christi, TX. He received his bachelor’s in History from Peabody College in Nashville, TN and his Master of Divinity from Perkins School of Theology in Dallas, TX. He served as a United Methodist Pastor for over 40 years at First United Methodist (FUMC) of Fort Stockton, FUMC Holcomb, FUMC Ovilla, FUMC Ranger and FUMC Strawn, FUMC Colleyville, Central UMC Waco, New World UMC Arlington, FUMC Kingsville, Travis Park Church San Antonio, FUMC Sterling City, Community UMC Pagosa Springs, Colorado, and FUMC Marble Falls. He worked as a youth director at several churches and had a heart for youth ministry. Claus was active in the United Methodist Church on a global level and worked in both Nashville, TN, and Washington D.C. with general church agencies.

Claus loved to camp, hike, and hunt – and, even more, he loved helping others experience the outdoors. He loved road trips and driving and getting to familiar places in new ways that just might be faster or better. And, he loved scouting and mission trips and church camps and Walks to Emmaus and Chrysalis, and the man never met a stranger. He was the best father and could tell the best story and gave the best hugs.

Rev. Claus is predeceased by his parents, parents-in-law, and grandparents.

He is survived by his daughters, Erika Wheeler and her husband, DeWayne, Kristin Markley; grandchildren, Ashley Spivey, Dustin Wheeler, Lukas Markley, and Rebekah Markley; great-grandchildren, Natalie Spivey, James Spivey, Jr., Landon Davis-Wheeler; siblings, Margaret Decker, Carl Rohlfs and Barbara, Paul Rohlfs and Pam, Paul Huber and Jane; son-in-law, Justin Markley; amazing nieces and nephews, precious great-nieces and nephews, beloved uncles and aunts, and many cherished cousins.

The family is grateful beyond words for the love and care Claus received from the staff of The Waterford at College Station and Enhabit Hospice.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 9, 2022, at First United Methodist Church, 321 Thompson Dr, Kerrville, TX 78028.

    Women’s Summer Bible Study 2022

This year’s Women’s Summer Bible Study is Common Ground: Loving Others Despite our Differences by Amberly Neese. Conflict has always been part of our lives, but these days, disagreements seem ramped up, don’t they? Whatever the discord may be over, it feels as if we’re constantly having to choose sides. In Common Ground, a four-week study for women, author Amberly Neese shows us that the Scriptures hold the key to living at peace despite our differences. She combines stories of sibling rivalries from the Bible with personal experience, humor, hope, and her love of God’s Word to illustrate how we can have peace and reconciliation in all our relationships—all while reassuring us that it’s possible to find common ground with everyone–despite our differences.

Our Bible Study will meet Monday June 20-July 18 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. This Bible Study will be a hybrid format, which means you can participate in-person or online via Zoom. Those who meet in person will gather in FL204 at the church. All participants will receive a Common Ground participant book. Please click here to sign up.
